Training, ingenuity and experience came into play Sunday night as Chattanooga firefighters conducted a complex extrication in Hixson. At 5:28 PM, Blue Shift companies responded to a single-car motor vehicle accident with entrapment in the 6600 block of Sandswitch Road. According to officials on the scene, it appeared that someone cut a large tree and it fell on a car that was traveling down the road at that exact moment, crushing the car and trapping the driver in her mangled vehicle.
North Chattanooga house fire and pet rescues: On 2/25/25 at 5:45 PM, Green Shift companies responded to the 300 block of Pine Ridge Road in District 12. A fire started in the kitchen of a home and was quickly extinguished by first arriving crews. While other units on scene performed search and ventilation, multiple dogs were rescued from the house. Four dogs in total were rescued. Three were rehabilitated with oxygen therapy on scene, but one perished. No other injuries occurred. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Green Shift companies quickly tacked a highly visible fire at a homeless encampment Sunday afternoon. At 3:28 PM on 2/16/25, Hamilton County 911 started receiving multiple calls from drivers on Highway 27 who reported seeing smoke and flames in the area of Cherokee Boulevard and West Manning Street. Chattanooga firefighters responded and found that the homeless encampment blaze had spread to the surrounding woods. The brush fire was moving in the direction of nearby buildings. An aerial was used to knock down the flames and then handlines were used to fully extinguish the fire.
An apparent electrical issue sparked a house fire on the city’s east side Wednesday morning. At 6:50 AM on 2/5/25, Green Shift companies responded to a home in the 3900 block of Grace Avenue. Flames were visible on the back corner of the structure as crews arrived on the scene. The residents were on the front porch, including a handicapped occupant. Firefighters got them down the front steps to safety. Meanwhile, other firefighters started a fire attack on a shed on the back of the house. The interior of the home was searched as a precaution and no one was found.
Chattanooga firefighters conducted water rescues Thursday afternoon in a flooded creek near the intersection of Quinn Adams Street and E 42nd Street. Several people and multiple animals were trapped by rising waters in a large homeless encampment on 2/13/25 around 12 PM. Chattanooga Fire responded with our Swiftwater Rescue Team. Firefighters were in the flood waters for hours searching individual camps and bringing people and their pets out on boats.
At 2:11 PM on Sunday (2/23/25), Ladder 19 Green Shift responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle into a building in the 5000 block of Hixson Pike. Ladder 19 arrived on scene, assessed the situation and called for Squad 19 to respond for assistance. One adult elderly male was driving when the accident occurred. When CFD got to the scene, the driver had already self-extricated. HCEMS arrived to treat and transport the driver. Squad 19 and Ladder 19 then called for a wrecker service. Battalion 3 also responded.
A Chattanooga family was displaced late Tuesday night due to a kitchen fire. At 11:35 PM on 2/18/25, Green Shift companies responded to a home on Badger Lane near the Dunkin on Highway 58 after Hamilton County 911 received a call from the residents that a grease fire in the kitchen had gotten out of hand. Calls from witnesses in the area started to flood 911 indicating that flames were visible. All occupants exited safely. Chattanooga firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the back of the house.
A two-alarm fire Friday afternoon damaged a home near Missionary Ridge. At 4:36 PM on 1/24/25, Blue Shift companies responded to a duplex in the 3200 block of Rosemont Drive off S Seminole Drive after 911 received reports that flames were coming from the residential structure. The residents came home and found the fire. Firefighters began a fire attack with both the first and second stories heavily involved. Due to downed, live power lines sparking and creating dangers on the scene, crews were removed from the structure and defensive operations got underway.
An apparent electrical fire damaged an East Chattanooga home Tuesday morning. At 9:11 AM on 2/18/25, Green Shift companies responded to the 2000 block of North Chamberlain Avenue. The residents woke up, smelled something burning and found that the house was on fire. Firefighters found the back of the structure engulfed in flames on arrival. They went inside to make sure that everyone was out and learned that all occupants were safe. Then they attacked the fire through the front door and through a side window.
Incredible work by Chattanooga firefighters during a two-alarm house fire response in Hixson overnight with two people being rescued from the burning home. At 3:46 AM on 2/4/25, Red Shift companies responded to the 700 block of Ashley Forest Drive off Lower Mill Road. Hamilton County 911 dispatchers were able to confirm that at least one person was trapped inside. A second alarm was called to bring additional CFD personnel to the scene. Firefighters found flames coming from the back corner of the residential structure and encountered heavy smoke and heat once inside.
