3-20-25 Couple welcomes baby on side of interstate

Jump to:

Standstill traffic on Interstate 24 caused a young family to have to pull over and call 911 early Thursday morning (3/20/25). The family was headed to the hospital with the mother in labor, but the baby had other plans. Stuck in the traffic backup, they realized they weren’t going to make it to the hospital in time. Their baby was coming and they needed help so they called 911. Chattanooga Fire Department Squad 13 Blue Shift, East Ridge PD and HCEMS Medic 13 responded with the family’s daughter being born on the side of I-24 near the Germantown exit shortly after Squad 13’s arrival around 1:00 AM. HCEMS Medic 13 transported the mother and baby the rest of the way to the hospital with dad following along behind. Everyone is happy, healthy and doing great. Congratulations to the family involved in this call and great job by first responders!
